history:

this is where it gets rough. jade grew up in a fairly normal home till she was about 8, when she found out her father was having an affair. she was too young to understand, of course, but surely she could understand her mother's tears - especially when her younger brother was born a month after her father moved out to go live with his mistress. her mother fell into a deep depression and could no longer care for jade or her brother jeremiah, so jade and the new baby were sent to live with her father, who was cold and disdainful toward the two children. his "trophy wife", as jade later called her, didn't care much for them either, so jade tried to care for her brother as best she could. due to this connection, the two west children grew up to be very close and jade became very responsible. as she got older, though, and continually stayed with her father, only seeing her mother during vacations, she became increasingly bitter. to retaliate against the hurt they'd caused her, she began to rebel. her mother told her not to pierce her eyebrow or dye her hair? bam, both done. she couldn't understand why her mother couldn't care for her or why her father didn't want her. this hurt also caused her to seek love elsewhere - and that's where beck oliver entered the picture. the two met freshman year, and began dating not long after. beck was the only one who could see through her facade and love her anyway, in a selfless kind of way that took jade's breath away - she'd never experienced it before. the two broke up sometimes, but they always managed to find their way back to each other, and that was the best part in jade's eyes. she didn't want them to end up like jade's parents. she'd had enough of that for a lifetime.

Jade lifted an eyebrow at her boyfriend, unsure of what exactly was on his mind. "So..." she drug out the word, kicking her feet back and forth. "You're angry with me?"

She didn't understand what she had done, honestly, and the thought made her angry. Was he really going to fault her for something she didn't understand? The two of them fought, of course, as any couple did - or so she thought - but this was ridiculous! He was practically making up any excuse to be angry with her. Her nostrils flared. "You can't just do this, you know! You can't get mad at me for being angry with you for dumb stuff - like Alyssa Vaughn, which was really not ridiculous by the way because she's a gorgeous socialite and I'm just, well, me - and then get all pissy with me over dumb stuff! I don't even know what I did, anyway. So there."

She crossed her arms over her chest and turned her back to the wall, grabbing her sharpest scissors out of her combat boots. She took a nice, satisfying snip out of Beck's comforter. So there.
